Thomas Köck

Thomas Köck, born in 1986 in Steyr, Upper Austria. He was socialized through music and studied philosophy in Vienna and the FU Berlin as well as scenic writing and film at the Berlin University of the Arts. He worked at the theatercombinat wien, was invited to Berlinale Talents with a documentary film project about Beirut, was the resident author at the Nationaltheater Mannheim, blogs with colleagues on nazisundgoldmund.net against the right and develops musical readymades with Andreas Spechtl under the label ghostdance. In addition, he also creates his own directing work and short films, for example for arte. He has received several awards for his theater texts, which are performed around the world and have been translated into more than 15 languages, including the »Text & Sprache« literature prize from the Kulturkreis der Deutschen Wirtschaft in 2018, and the “Mülheim Drama Prize” in 2018 and 2019, most recently also with the “Radio Play Prize of the War Blind” for his radio work. His plays “your palaces are empty” and the “Climate Trilogy” were recently published as books by Suhrkamp Verlag.

Thomas Köck was a resident at the Tarabya Cultural Academy from August to November 2022.
