Erol Afşin, born in Adana, Turkey, moved to Germany at the age of 19 to study acting. After graduating from the prestigious Folkwang University of the Arts, where he was the first graduate with a screenplay, he established himself in theater productions and international films such as the Oscar-nominated “Mustang”, the Cannes competition film “Girls of the Sun” and the series “The Turkish Detective”. He also played a recurring role in the US series “Homeland” and starred in the ZDF neo-series “Wir” from 2021 to 2023. Parallel to his acting career, Afşin began making films. He made short films such as “The Path” and a short documentary about a trip by two men to Palestine. In 2023, his feature film debut “Es brennt” premiered at the Munich Film Festival and was nominated in the categories “Best Director”, “Best Screenplay” and “Best Production”. The film was also included in the King’s College London curriculum. Afşin lives in Berlin, is a German citizen and works as an actor, director and screenwriter.

Erol Afşin is a fellow at the Tarabya Cultural Academy from October 2024 to January 2025.
