Julia Kurz
Julia Kurz lives and works in Leipzig as a curator, art educator and author. Since 2023, she has been developing Stadtkuratorin Leipzig, a programme for art in public space commissioned by the City of Leipzig. After a master’s degree in theatre studies and Arabic studies at Leipzig University, including guest semesters at the Higher Institute of Dramatic Arts in Damascus, and journalistic work as an author and assistant director at Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk, Kurz increasingly turned to interdisciplinary exhibition and outreach projects at the intersection of institutions, public space and civil society. These have included projects for the Galerie für Zeitgenössische Kunst Leipzig, the Bauhaus Dessau Foundation, the neue Gesellschaft für bildende Kunst Berlin, BURG Giebichenstein University of Art and Design Halle and the Dresden State Art Collections. She has also served on the boards of the art associations dieschönestadt e.V. (Halle/Saale) and UmRäumen e.V. (Leipzig). From 2016 to 2023, she taught on the Cultures of the Curatorial programme at the Academy of Fine Arts Leipzig. She plays a key role in building networks across the independent arts scene, for example as co-founder of kompliz*, a Saxony-wide network, and through projects such as the reflection platform you are warmly invited.
Julia Kurz is in residence at the Tarabya Cultural Academy from October 2026 to January 2027.
