Newroz Duman is a German-Kurdish activist. She has been politically active in the fields of flight, migration and anti-racist self-organization since 2006. She is the spokesperson for the “Initiative 19. February Hanau”, which was founded after the racist attack in Hanau on February 19, 2020. The initiative is committed to the memory of the victims, the investigation of the crime and justice. Newroz studied social work and is a trained trauma educator. She is also involved in the board of Pro Asyl as well as other social and political projects such as the “We’ll Come United” network and the “Young People without Borders” initiative. A central focus of her work is the further development of remembrance politics in the public sphere and the comprehensive social and political confrontation with right-wing extremism and institutional racism. Newroz also works as a project assistant in the Islamophobia and Muslimophobia competence network at the Association of Binational Families and Partnerships in Leipzig.

Newroz Duman is a fellow at the Kulturakademie Tarabya from October 2024 to January 2025.
